February 5, Socials 9-4

Today, class will begin with a brief introduction to the Canadian Fur Trade. We will look at the key ideas:
  • culture, conflict, and colonization during the fur trade era
  • impact of fur trade on First Nations and European-based interests
  • human-environment interaction, especially related to the role of natural resources and manufactured goods.
The main focus of this topic will be Chapter 9 of the Crossroads text.

Then,  we will revisit the photos from Thursday's class and remember their significance in Canada's history. You will be asked to speculate what stories were not taken into account.  To do this, you will need to stretch your thinking and use your critical analysis skills. When you are done you will present your findings to the class. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on these iconic photos.
